Knowledge and Library Hub

(Guide)

The Knowledge and Library Hub lets you easily find and access the library's resources (both books and articles are listed). It features a flexible search box which allows you to search for a specific title or perform a keyword topic search.

Full-text will not be available for all articles - if you wish to access an article where full text is not available please request a copy using our request form.

Databases

The NICE Healthcare Databases will enable you to complete detailed literature searches i.e. locate various articles on a topic. As an NHS employee/placement student you have access to 8 databases:

AMED - covers topics for allied health professions

BNI (British Nursing Index) - primarily of use for nurses but also includes allied health topics

CINAHL - international nursing and allied health

EMBASE - primarily European biomedicine - good for pharmacology and drug therapy

HBE- healthcare administration and other non-clinical aspects of healthcare institution management.

HMIC - health service management and organisation. Includes grey literature

MEDLINE - general medical database covering most health topics

PsycINFO - psychology and psychiatry

PubMed - life sciences and biomedical literature

Databases contain bibliographic records i.e references. Full-text will not be available for all articles - if you wish to access an article where full text is not available please request a copy using our request form.


Journals

Discovery search guide 

Discovery Search is a searchable and browsable list of all the print and electronic journals available to you through the NHS. Use the search box to search for a specific title or keyword. If the journal/article you require is not available please request a copy using our request form

ClinicalKey - a clinical search engine providing access to over 500 journals, 1,000 ebooks and other full text resources. Also include images and video. NHS OpenAthens Account required (TSDFT staff only).

Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) - provided by NICE. Contains summaries of the current evidence base and practical guidance on best practice in respect of 330+ primary care presentations.

Cochrane Library - consists of 6 databses which contain different types of high quality evidence e.g. systematic reviews, RCTs and Health Technology Assessments.

Medicines Complete - Medicines information curated by leading scientists, experts and researchers. Online access to the BNF and BNFc. NHS OpenAthens account required.

NICE Evidence - NICE search resource for freely available health information. Contains guidelines, other evidence-based resources, patient information and lots more.

Trip Database - clinical search engine designed to allow users to quickly and easily find and use high-quality research evidence to support their practice and/or care.
